We here at Wednesday Journal, Inc., which owns the Review, are bidding a sad farewell to Becky Lomax, our longtime design editor, and a friend to all.  Becky is moving on to a real estate firm nearer to her home, in Chicago.  There’s a bit more money in it, as well.

The Oak Park Animal Care League is hosting a Holiday Bazaar on Friday, Dec. 2, and on Saturday, Dec. 3, too. Both will run 9 a.m.-3p.m. The Community Bank of Oak Park and River Forest donated its space at 809 S. Oak Park Ave., for the event.

There will be holiday items, pet items, gift baskets, bakery items, jewelry, music and much more. For more information, visit www.AnimalCareLeague.org, or call 708-848-8155.  All your generosity goes to support the shelter.

Speaking of animals, have you read the latest copy of The Barking News?  It’s a free monthly publication available at various places around the area such as the Forest Park Library, The Dole branch of the Oak Park Public Library, Val’s Halla record shop, Scratch ‘n Sniff pet store, and other places. Call 708-763-9726 for more information or to place an ad.

There are puzzles, recipes for dog treats, and an advice column in which Cousin Pearl (a kindly, understanding bloodhound) offers advice.  This month Twinkie wants to make an impression on Thanksgiving guests and possibly acquire some bites of turkey. Cousin Pearl advises Twinkie to put on the “Poor me” face and to work her way around the table.

The Saint Bernardine Women’s Club is hosting a Christmas Party, Dec. 6, at 6:30 p.m.  Dinner is by Freddy’s, in Cicero! Festive entertainment will follow. Reservations are $15 per person, and must be received by Tuesday, Dec. 6.

If you need a ride, you can call Patty Mullin, at 708-848-1214. Bring a toy, unwrapped for a contribution to Catholic Charities.  Old rosaries are needed, too. The chaplain at Hines VA Hospital requests any of your surplus beads.  Bring them along to the party or to a club meeting.

If you’re marking your 2012 calendar, the social event of the year is the spring dinner and fashion show, and it’s happening on April 19.
