Princess Dempsey, candidate in the 7th District race, has challenged the petition signatures of opponents Chris Welch and Rory Hoskins, according to the Illinois State Board of Elections website. Even though it is a statewide race, the Cook County Board of Elections will oversee the petition challenges, says Hoskins, who is a Forest Park village commissioner. Dempsey filed on Dec. 12.

Hoskins said he submitted more than twice the roughly 500 signatures required to get on the ballot in the race. He called Broadview resident Dempsey’s challenges a “maneuver.” Hoskins has objected to the challenge and will set up a hearing at the Board of Elections.

“I have hired a lawyer. This is not going to stop the campaign, and that’s what it’s designed to do.”

Seven candidates are running in the Democratic primary, which will take place on March 20, 2012.
