It was a riot of reading and eating at Grandparents Day at Garfield School last Friday. Among the revelers were the family of Jim and Linda Myrtle, Preston Taylor and his cousin MacKenzie. The books were flying off the shelves as Mary Catherine Wygonik selected a few favorites for her family. Poor Mrs. Popelka was going as fast as she could to keep up with the demand.

Forest Park seems to have more dog lovers per square foot than any other town. If you are currently without a dog and would like to rescue a loving, worthy new pet you will enjoy “Frisky Dog” on February 25th. A three-shelter party will be held at Frisky Dog Daycare, 9216 West 47th St in Brookfield. There are some very special dogs available including a lovable, very bright 2-year old border collie. You have to be smart to work with this fellow. For information call 708.290.1056.

A late Valentine story. About 100 years ago Ruth Johnson (later Ruth Marquart) lived in the frame house on the corner of Ferdinand and Adams. Her granddaughter Julie lived with her for a time as Ruth aged and needed care. Julie became friends with Carolyn Kelly who lived across the street. The two ladies (Carolyn and Julie) recently met for lunch. Julie gave Carolyn some valentine cards-from 1906 and 1911-from her aunts addressed to Ruth Johnson. They had been school friends…nearly 100 years ago.

Friends of Loretta Woeltje have been wondering where she is. Many of her friends have died and the church where she was so active all her life, St. Peter’s, has closed. So Loretta is getting lonesome. Karen Neumann tells us that Loretta is at Plymouth Place in LaGrange Park. Her address is 315 N. LaGrange Road, 60526. Maybe you’d like to send Loretta a card. She misses her dog, Katie very much
