To begin with, let’s hear a big cheer for “Pi Day!” Yes, sir it’s 3.14 and we all remember that one. In 1706, William Jones, a self-taught mathematician from Wales selected the Greek letter to represent the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. The world record for pi memorization was achieved in 2006 when Akira Haraguehi recited 100,000 digits from memory in over 16 hours. Pi has been computed with a calculator to contain more than one billion digits.
