A broken water main at the intersection of Desplaines Avenue and Harrison Street will cause neighboring blocks to be without water Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., the village reported.

The water main and pipes near the hydrant have been leaking since Tuesday, said Village Administrator Tim Gillian. On Thursday, workers had coned-off portions of northbound Desplaines and were digging with a backhoe.

“They’ve been trying to track down the leak and tried a whole bunch of things. Now we have to shut down the system and replace the hydrant,” Gillian said on Thursday afternoon. A village alert phone call was sent at 4 p.m.

Water service will be interrupted on the 800 and 900 blocks of Desplaines and Dunlop and on the 900 block of Troost Street. Additionally, the outage may affect the intersection of Polk and York west of Dunlop, and the 7600 and 7700 blocks of Harvard.

Village officials advised residents to flush their system for at least three minutes when water service resumes.

This article has been updated to correct that the water outage will occur on Friday.
