The Division One Warriors faced off against the Chicago Fire at the Park on Saturday. Due to the hot weather, the quarters were shortened to seven minutes. It was a see-saw game up and down the field, with the defenders holding their positions to keep the game scoreless. The Fire had six shots on goal to four for the Warriors. The game was well-played, with no handballs called. The ref didn’t make any petty calls that would have stopped the flow of the game. The offense players spread out and passed the ball. At halftime, a soccer dad sprayed the players with water.
Division One players are pre-K to 1st Grade. They play eight-on-eight with no goalies. They kept their feet down on throw-ins and listened to their coaches. Many of the Division One coaches have been doing it for three or four seasons and know how to teach young players. The teams play an eight game schedule that will end with parents v. kids practice game. In the second half, the Warriors had some point blank shots but still didn’t score.
Finally a goal was scored in the final minutes but in keeping with FPYSA policy on not keeping score, we won’t report who kicked it in and did a cartwheel afterward.
