The Rookie Yankees were a little short-handed on June 19, starting their game against the Red Sox with only seven players. They played without a right fielder and catcher and the Red Sox didn’t try to take advantage by hitting to right field.
Still, the Yankees fell behind by four in the first. In the second, Yankee Nathan Canada hustling for a double was safe on a close play at second. The Red Sox also showed some athleticism in the second with a tough catch at third by Evan Braniff. Anthony Mohr did a good job fielding a grounder to get the last out for the Red Sox and keep their lead at five. In the bottom of the inning, Red Sox slugger Hannah Organ crushed a triple bringing home two more runs. In the third, the Red Sox had runners on second and third, when the ball was hit to Yankee third baseman Sidh Leekah. He dove on the base to get the force out.
During the Yankee at bat, Delaney Johnson scored the only run in the inning to keep her team in it. Both teams got six runs in the fourth, with strong hitting producing five extra base hits. In the fifth, Yankee Henry Wagner hit a two run homer to bring his team within two. But the Red Sox came back with six runs. During the rally, fans got to witness a grand slam by Braniff, which caused some excitement with the coaches.
Even with an extra player joining them in the sixth, the Yankees could find only three more runs. The Red Sox held on to win 19-16.
