A stray firework started a small fire in dry foliage on the side of the Eisenhower Expressway during the Fourth of July fireworks display in Forest Park, police said Friday.

Around 10:03 p.m., embers from a firework set fire to a patch of grass between Harlem and Desplaines avenues on the south side of the expressway, according to Deputy Chief Tom Aftanas.

The burned patch was about six feet by eight feet, and a Forest Park fire truck responded and extinguished the flames without closing the highway, Aftanas said.
