August W. “Gus” Heider, 77 of Forest Park, died July 9 at Hines VA Hospital in Maywood. He was a U.S. Army veteran. A lifelong resident of Forest Park, Gus served as a reserve police officer for 17 years, worked in the department of public works for nine years and served as a Village Commissioner for eight years. Gus was also a successful painting contractor for 27 years. He was a member of the Forest Park Eagles and Kiwanis clubs and a member of the Commodore Barry American Legion Post 256 in Berwyn.
He was the husband of the late Patricia (Glover), father of William, Diane (Ernest) Wilkinson, Carole (Anthony) Smith, James (Michell), and the late Jeffrey, grandfather of five. Loving brother of Lydia (John) Keigley, and fond uncle of Barbara (Thomas) Morris and Michael (Susan) Keigley. Services were held last week, arranged by Kuratko-Nosek Funeral Home, North Riverside.
