Think you’ve got what it takes to run for the school board?

Illinois school board elections are April 9. Nominating petitions must bear the names of 50 registered voters residing in the district. Petitions can begin circulating next week, no earlier than Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Materials are available at District 91 offices (424 Desplaines Ave., Forest Park) and Proviso Township High School District 209 administration offices (Proviso Math and Science Academy, 8601 W. Roosevelt, Forest Park).

“There’s a packet at the district with all the petitions and tips from the Illinois Association of School Boards,” said D91’s secretary, Jeanette Barnes.

Up for re-election in D209 will be incumbents (and all of the male members) Dan Adams, Brian Cross and Kevin McDermott. Board President Emanuel “Chris” Welch, has said he will not run for re-election because he will more than likely be elected in November to represent the 7th District in Springfield.

In D91, all of the women are up for re-election: Mary Win Connor, Mary Turek, Joan White and Lois Bugajsky.

Petitions must be turned in between Dec. 17 and 24.
