Madison Street once again has a “destination” appliance shop.
Grand Appliance and TV, celebrated their Grand Opening Oct. 4 in Forest Park at 7440 Madison Street.
In spite of a sudden thunderstorm, politicians, Chamber members and the curious public stopped by to ogle high-end kitchen built-ins and enormous flat-screen televisions.
Gourmet catering was provided by the submarine shop down the street. Hors d’oeuvres, including bacon-wrapped baked figs and cannoli, proved the Starship universe has truly expanded.
Guests were given a swag bag containing (among other items) a sweatshirt blanket, pen, and measuring devices – both spoons and tapes – appropriate for the remodeling of a new kitchen.
In attendance were Mayor Anthony Calderone, Village Commissioners Mark Hosty and Tom Mannix, as well as Commercial Real Estate expert David King and other well-wishers.
The store, owned by third-generation family member Mark Rekling, represents a significant investment in Madison Street and Forest Park, with a complete gut rehab of the building that had been empty since Trage Brothers Appliances abruptly closed in 2009.
Named after the flagship shop, opened in 1932 on Grand Avenue in Waukegan, Grand has 14 stores in Wisconsin, Naperville, Chicago, Crystal Lake and Zion.
