The number of Hispanic students in Proviso Township High School District 209 has increased by 12 percent since the 2004-2005 school year, while the number of African-American students has fallen by 13 percent, according to a report presented to the District 209 school board by the school’s Assessment and Planning department.

“[This is] the first time such levels have been reached in recent memory,” the report said.

At Proviso East this year, 58 percent of students are African American and 39 percent are Hispanic. Two percent are Caucasian. At Proviso Math and Science Academy, 49 percent of students are Hispanic and 35 percent are African American. Three percent are Asian and 10 percent are Caucasian.
