The village may ask for grant funding to use the federal dollars to demolish the village-owned burnt out two-flat at 512 Desplaines.
That was the word Monday night to the village council from the village’s engineering firm. Right move. The building is a dangerous wreck that needs to come down. But these funds wouldn’t kick into place until 2014. We can’t wait that long. If that building had been in private or commercial hands, village building department officials would rightly have been all over the owners to level it.
