The local Kiwanis Club has a history of providing solid support to education here in Forest Park. How, you ask? Many ways, but the one I know most about is the continuing help it gives to the Forest Park Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, or SRP, as we call it. Over the last two summers alone, Kiwanis has donated nearly $2,000 to provide incentives for children who participate in SRP. Tons of research shows that students reading skills slip substantially over the extended summer vacation from school, unless they stay involved with programs like SRP. The generous support Kiwanis has given to SRP has been a great help in keeping up the reading skills of our kids here in town.
