A free discount prescription card available through Proviso Township not only saves individuals an average of 48 percent on their prescription costs, it also covers 25 percent of all veterinary services at participating veterinary offices.

Proviso Township introduced the discount prescription card, Coast2Coast, last year. The card is free to anyone and can be used at any one of 59,000 participating pharmacies nationwide. There is no contract to sign, nor any commitment to make on the part of the cardholder. The card is available to everyone regardless of income, age, health status or whether or not they are insured.

“The pet coverage is an added bonus,” said Proviso Township Mental Health Commission Executive Director Jesse D. Rosas.

Individuals seeking pet care coverage must contact Coast2Coast, by 800-number or via the website, to receive a pet care card. The card covers all veterinary services at participating veterinary clinics, including:

  • Office visits
  • Surgical procedures
  • X-rays
  • Examinations
  • Injections
  • Pet teeth care

The card also covers some prescriptions.

“I hope this card makes pet care easier for those who are facing tight budgets,” Rosas said.

Individuals can call 1-800-931-8872 to find the closest participating veterinarian. If your vet is not participating in the program, he or she is eligible to apply.

Since the program began earlier this year, more than 500 residents have submitted nearly 400 claims, saving $24,700, or 60 percent off the retail price of their prescription drug purchases.
