It may cost another $4 per year to throw away your garbage in Forest Park. The Forest Park Village Council discussed passing on to villagers a $18,500 per year increase in municipal waste hauling fees charged by Allied Waste. The company put the village on notice that they would exercise the option, built into their contract, of raising prices.

The motion was not brought to a vote, but commissioners Rory Hoskins, Chris Harris and Tom Mannix all said they thought the village should absorb the cost. Commissioner Mark Hosty and Mayor Anthony Calderone noted that the cost was minimal to villages but added up. “That’s the price of a squad car,” Hosty said.

Mannix, Harris and Hosty mentioned that there is dissatisfaction in the village with Allied Waste’s service. Mannix said Forest Parkers complained to him about garbage pickup when he was walking his dog, and Hosty mentioned that an Allied truck removed one of his garbage cans. All three suggested rebidding the solid waste contract when it expires in 2014.
