August Scolaro, 85, a lifetime resident of Forest Park, died April 18, 2013 at Hines V.A. Hospital in Maywood. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Marie “Blondie” (Johnson) and a great-grandson Joshua. He is survived by his children Mary Ann (Rich) Barger, August (Debi) Scolaro, Terry (Steve) Watson, and Vicki (Mike) Stisevic. He was grandfather of Rick (Kelly), Cari (Jim), Gina, Anthony(Alyson), Andrew, Carin, Shane, Gus, Danny, Alexa, and Chuckie. He was great grandfather of Brett, Cami, Ben, Hailey, Abigail, Nathan, Jacob, and soon to be Baby Scolaro and Baby Watson. He was the brother of Mary Jane Levin, Antoinette Scolaro, and the late Joseph Scolaro. He was the longtime owner of West End Meat Market and Gussie’s Deli in Forest Park.

“For years Gus oversaw the plantings at the Park District,” said Park Director Larry Piekarz. “Even into his 80’s he planted every flower himself, and everything always came out beautifully.”

“We are definitely going to miss him at the park,” Piekarz said.

Funeral services were held Monday at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
