Kiwanis is delighted to participate in the 5h Annual Juneteenth Family Picninc Saturday, June 22nd, from 8:15 to 11:00 PM. The picnic will be held at the Parks District pool, and is free to kids and their families.

What is Juneteenth, you ask? Simple! It commemorates the effective abolition of slavery in Texas, when Union troops arrived in Galveston on June 19th, 1865 to make abolition official, and enforce it, giving former slaves their freedom. It’s a joyous occasion for ALL Americans, very much like the 4th of July.

So, come on out to the pool, enjoy food and fun. In the process you’ll be commemorating a very important milestone in the life of freedom in our great country.
