Rash of car and garage burglaries over three days
A bicycle and a bag containing three GPS units were found outside a garage in the 600 block of Hannah Street around 2 a.m. June 18 after a resident heard his garage alarm sound. A nearby garage was also found to have been entered, and a car inside had been ransacked. The neighbor was contacted and identified two of the GPS units as his property. Garages in the 1000 blocks of Circle, Marengo and Hannah were also burglarized overnight June 18. A bicycle was stolen during the day June 18 from a locked storage locker in a common basement area in the 7300 block of Adams.
Overnight June 19-20 seven cars were ransacked in the 600 blocks of Harlem and Marengo and the 400 block of Beloit. The same night two garages in the 800 block of Hannah and Thomas and the 400 block of Elgin were entered via unsecured side service doors. Cars inside were ransacked and a GPS and other items, including a bike, were also stolen. A car was ransacked overnight in the 500 block of Elgin June 20-21.
Wife pulls knife over LINK card dispute
Police arrived at the CTA Blue Line terminus 711 Desplaines, after getting a call that a man and woman were arguing around 6 p.m. June 20 and that the woman had pulled a knife. When they arrived, they observed a 29-year-old Chicago woman arguing with her husband and allegedly holding a retractable folding knife in her right hand. According to reports, she refused to drop the knife at police command, and eventually placed the knife in her front pocket. At that point, officers placed her into custody. Her husband told police the two were arguing over a LINK card and the fight never got physical. He explained the weapon saying his spouse, “thought some people were coming to meet up with her.” The wife was charged with obstructing an officer.
Rowdy Blueberry Hill patron arrested for outstanding warrant
Police arrived at Blueberry Hill, 427 Desplaines Ave. around 12:30 a.m. June 20 to investigate reports that a patron had thrown a glass and shattered it on the sidewalk. Police observed the man, walking with two female companions, and questioned the group. They characterized the incident as “dropping the glass,” but while answering police questions, the 31-year-old Chicago man was found to have an outstanding warrant for his arrest for DUI from South DeKalb Co. He was arrested and held for extradition to DeKalb.
Couple arrested with crack pipe, cocaine
Officers noted two passengers sitting in a vehicle parked in the lot of an apartment building in the 8200 block of Roosevelt Road around 6 p.m. on June 17. The spot is notorious for drug complaints. The male and female passengers reportedly made eye contact with the officers and then began moving around inside the vehicle frantically, according to reports. As police approached the passenger side, an officer observed a glass pipe with a metal filter lying on the passenger-side floor. The male in the driver’s seat reportedly kept placing his hands in his pockets in spite of numerous commands to keep hands in view. In an officer safety check, police recovered four knotted plastic baggies each containing 2.3 grams of an off-white rocky substance that later tested positive for crack cocaine. The woman passenger was not found to have any drugs on her person and released without charge. Police arrested James Doran, 56, of Forest Park and charged him with possession of a controlled substance.
Juvenile mob action results in three arrests
Police were summoned to the 900 block of Thomas around 8 p.m. June 18 where neighbors said 20 young men were in the street fighting and throwing bricks at each other. The group scattered, some holding bricks, when police arrived. Police recognized some of the brawlers from previous contacts running through a yard and took three into custody. One 20-year-old Forest Park man allegedly had a Newport cigarette box containing a baggie of a green leafy substance, suspected to be cannabis. The subjects were processed for fighting, disorderly contact and those under 18 were turned over to guardians.
Parky’s patron loses wallet from unlocked car
A woman told police her wallet disappeared from the front seat of her 2009 Nissan while she dined at Parky’s in the 300 block of Harlem around 4 p.m. June 21. She said she did not lock the vehicle and had left her wallet on the seat.
Alleged credit fraudsters stole identity of landlady on Rwanda charity mission
Police were summoned by Walmart security after a clerk refused to charge $1,269.26 of electronics and merchandise to a man who claimed to be using his grandmother’s credit card. Meanwhile, the man had also, allegedly, urged a minor with him to conceal a Straight Talk LG phone and walk out of the store without paying.
Police receiving a description of the offenders’ car pulled over a white Dodge in the 7600 block of Roosevelt and observed Tyrese Jackson, 35, of Chicago in the driver’s seat with the open packaging of a new cell phone in his lap. Police also recovered from the car a red backpack containing tax returns, a birth certificate, driver’s license and newly issued credit cards of a woman who Jackson identified as his “grandmother.” Jackson and a woman passenger, (mother of the minor), were taken to the station for a credit card fraud investigation and a relative was summoned to take two minor children home.
Neighbors told police the woman identified by the documents in the backpack was on a charity mission to Rwanda for 11 months and that a rental company had sublet her property while she was out of the country. Neighbors believed that the landlady may have left identity documents in the basement. The two were charged with retail theft.

An allegedly intoxicated street flutist was arrested and given a local ordinance citation around 9:30 p.m. June 22 after police warned him to stop performing in the public parking lot at Madison Street and Thomas. In spite of the warning, the 55-year-old Forest Park man allegedly returned an hour later, his breath reportedly emitting a strong odor of alcohol. After a brief argument, police placed the musician in custody and charged him with local ordinance violations of resisting arrest and solicitation.
These items were obtained from the records of the Forest Park Police Department, June 16-22 and represent a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in the report has only been charged with a crime.
