A church building is meant to hum with life, with spirit, with music, with grace. And so the transfer of the century-plus St. Peter’s Lutheran to Mt. Moriah Baptist is a good day for churching in Forest Park.

St. Peter’s congregation has shrunk over decades and claimed just nine members at the end. Mt. Moriah, an African-American church, arrives from Chicago’s west side with 120 proud members ready to create new traditions in a sacred space.

Mayor Calderone said it well at the church’s opening ceremony. “This is a day of new beginnings,” he said. Amen to that.
