Washington flat was site of June heroin bust
An apartment in the 7400 block of Washington Street was used by alleged Chicago drug dealers to process heroin and was the scene of a June 26 arrest of four men after a multi-month undercover investigation into a large scale Chicago heroin ring on the West Side.
West Suburban Drug and Gang Enforcement (WEDGE) agents, serving a warrant, recovered more than 85 grams of heroin in 465 foil packets and three illegal guns from the Forest Park apartment, which had been used to process and package illegal drugs. The guns were a black Glock semi-automatic, a black and silver Smith & Wesson semi-automatic.40 caliber handgun and a Taurus .32 caliber handgun and several packages of ammunition. Police also recovered $3,611, two father’s day cards and a bottle of Appleton Estate Jamaican rum.
Police arrested Secret S. Shack, 34, of Broadview, Charles L. Johnson, aka “Catfish,” 34 of Chicago, Javon D. Evans, aka “Weezy” and “Lil Wayne,” 33, of Forest Park and Jarvis L. Baker, 29, of Chicago. The four were charged with manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance, possession of drug equipment and unlawful use of a weapon.
Underage drinker nabbed
A 20-year-old man from Wilmette was taken into custody by Forest Park police at Angelo O’Leary’s, 7522 Madison St., around midnight, July 11. According to reports, the man was sitting at the bar and appeared nervous when officers approached. He quickly entered the men’s room and was followed by an officer who knocked on the stall and asked for his ID. He admitted he was under 21 and provided a state of Illinois ID card. The man allegedly showed a fake California driver’s license when carded by bar staff. He was issued two local ordinance citations for underage consumption of alcohol and misrepresenting his age.
Bike cops issue loud radio tickets
Forest Park officers on bicycle patrol issued five citations for excessive car stereo volume along Madison Street, the afternoon of July 11. One driver reportedly was listening to repeating lyrics in the music stating, “I’m gonna f— a bi— with a drum stick.” The drivers, from Maywood, Chicago, LaGrange and Beach Park were all issued local ordinance citations.
Stolen belongings show up in alley, neighbor’s garage
A woman called police in the 100 block of Lathrop Avenue after she discovered someone had entered her 2007 Toyota Matrix sedan, overnight July 11-12, and removed a work bag, wallet and purple suitcase. Reports did not specify if the car was garaged or parked on the street or if the vehicle was secured or unlocked. The victim told police that when she called to cancel the stolen credit cards in her wallet, she was told several had already been used earlier that morning. Thieves also removed a dash cover to the car stereo, but the stereo was not taken. A neighbor later reported finding the suitcase in his garage. The work bag was found by the victim in the alley near her residence.
Two bicycles were stolen from a garage in the 100 block of Rockford, overnight July 12-13. The victim told police the thieves entered via a closed but not secure side entrance door.
Someone entered and ransacked an unlocked 2009 Chevy sedan parked overnight in the 400 block of Elgin Avenue, July 12-13. The owner told police $20 was missing from the center console and the glove compartment handle was snapped off.
Someone entered an unlocked Jeep Cherokee parked overnight, July 10-11, in the 500 block of Hannah Avenue and ransacked the vehicle, taking a black leather visor case full of miscellaneous road maps, pencils, tire pressure gauges, a vehicle registration card and about $4 in change. The visor case was discovered by a neighbor in her yard, July 13.
Cemetery thefts
A 2008 Volvo S80 sedan, with the engine left running while the car’s owner visited a gravesite at Waldheim Cemetery, was stolen around 1:10 p.m., July 13. The owner flagged down police in the 8000 block of West Roosevelt Road when he discovered his car was gone. He told police he had left the vehicle unlocked and had started the engine remotely with the key fob while he visited the grave.
Someone removed two purses from a Florida van parked at Woodlawn Cemetery, 2200 Desplaines Ave. around 1:30 p.m., July 12, as the owner, his wife and a female relative were visiting a gravesite. The owner told police the van was parked within view of the gravesite and the women left their purses inside the unlocked van.
Man arrested in bar tab dispute
Forest Park police were summoned to O’Sullivan’s Public House, 7244 Madison St., around 1 a.m. on July 13 because a woman was allegedly causing a disturbance over the amount of her bar tab. The woman was reportedly irate and yelling outside the establishment. While police informed her she needed to go home, a 24-year-old Forest Park man continually interrupted the police and attempted to interfere. He demanded the names of the officers. After officers advised the man several times to stop interrupting and step away, he was taken into custody and issued a local ordinance ticket for obstructing justice. The disgruntled female patron left the scene peacefully.
Punch leaves man unconscious
Police arrived at Submarine Tender around 1:45 a.m. on July 14 to find a group surrounding a man lying motionless on the cement and another man leaning over him who appeared to be providing aid. The man’s friends said he had been in a dispute with a 22-year-old Forest Park man who allegedly started an argument earlier in the restaurant and then waited outside in his car. When the victim went outside to smoke a cigarette, the offender allegedly exited his car and attacked him. The victim’s companions said they first pulled the man off the victim and struggled to take him to the ground. Thinking the fight was over, they allowed the offender to rise to his feet, but he began wildly swinging his fists, allegedly hitting the victim in the face and knocking him unconscious. Police reported that witnesses from the Pioneer Tap across the street saw the man knock the victim unconscious. He was cited with two misdemeanor counts of battery. The victim was transported to Loyola University Hospital.
