Area residents are encouraged to make plans to attend the West Suburban Special Recreation Association (WSSRA) annual Wacky Quacky Duck Splash on Sunday, Aug. 18, 12:30 – 4 p.m. at Proksa Park, 3001 Wisconsin Ave. in Berwyn. All local families, WSSRA participants, their friends and families and Association supporters are especially encouraged to attend. The event will be part of the annual Berwyn Park District’s Back to School Carnival. This is the first time the event will be held in August.
“Each summer, the Berwyn Park District, a WSSRA partner, offers a terrific day of outdoor activities at their Back to School event. Carnival booth games, a complementary grilled lunch, a trackless train, petting zoo and school supply give-a-way are scheduled. WSSRA will also offer free craft activities for children to make and take home. Volunteers will be on hand to help the families complete the crafts. Children with disabilities are especially encouraged to visit the WSSRA craft tents,” said Gretchen Dennis WSSRA Superintendent.
Entrance to the Back to School Carnival is free. For as little as $5, guests can have even more fun and make a splash by adopting a plastic duck for the annual race down Proksa creek that day.
“The 15th annual Duck Splash will begin at 3:45 p.m. It’s a race of hundreds of cute little plastic ducks down the creek in beautiful Proksa Park. Some donors adopt one duck for $5 and others will adopt a three duck trio for $13. The ten fastest ducks will earn a prize for their sponsors. Everyone at the event runs down to the creek to watch hundreds of duck float to the finish line. While music plays, we all cheer on the ducks. The grand prize is $500. Duck race proceeds help WSSRA provide scholarships and quality recreation services for children and adults with disabilities. Winners need not be present to win the race prizes,” Dennis explained.
WSSRA thanks the Gold Sponsors of the Wacky Quacky Duck Splash: Adolf Funeral Home, World’s Largest Laundromat, Hawthorne Park District, Morton College, Precision Dialogue Direct Printing and the Liquor & Wine Sales Representatives, Clerical & Allied Workers Union Local 3.
“This event provides a great opportunity for families to come out to play together and have fun, all while supporting WSSRA who provides important services to their community,” said Dennis.
