The next phase of the Forest Park Comprehensive Plan is now underway. A steering committee of largely self-nominated residents gathered at the Community Center earlier this month to talk through issues and concerns and then to focus on their hopes and expectations for the village over the next two decades.

We’re disappointed that only 17 of the 33 volunteers turned out for the first meeting. This is a process that benefits from more minds and more experience not less. And while we have had some criticism of the village administration for its chosen list of 16 Key Persons who were interviewed in another aspect of the plan, the steering committee was largely self-selected and includes some of the more regular critics of the village leadership. That’s a healthy basis for a frank discussion.

May it continue.
