The village of Forest Park voted Monday to purchase a parking lot in the 1000 block of Troost Avenue for $25,000.

The 6,709-square-foot parcel at 1004 S. Troost Ave. was formerly owned by American Wilbert Vault Company, which vacated their offices across the street and moved to Bridgeview many years ago.

The lot will be used by the village for night parking or 24-hour parking Village Administrator Tim Gillian said.

“It was a very cheap price, and it’s already an existing parking lot,” Gillian said. “The village will do some cleanup work and can make it available almost immediately.”

The lot has 16 parking spaces.

Gillian said the number of multi-unit buildings along Desplaines Ave. and Harvard Street means there’s a need for off-street night parking in the neighborhood.

“The big key is that it’s more than 6,000 square feet and ready to use right way as a parking lot,” Gillian said. “A lot you could build a house on for $25,000 is a pretty good deal for the village.”
