A woman suffered only minor injuries after being trapped in her white SUV around 1:15 Sept. 15 after she lost control of the vehicle on Desplaines Avenue near 22nd Street and hit a utility pole.

The woman told police she was driving northbound on Desplaines Avenue around 1 p.m. when she lost control of the vehicle and slammed into the utility pole, cutting it in half. The pole fell, smashing the streetlamp attached to it. The pole came to rest on top of the car, which flipped around facing south. Live electrical wires dangled into the wet street, which prevented police from removing the driver from the car. When a ComEd truck arrived and the employee turned off the power, the woman escaped through the back of the vehicle. She had only minor injuries.

Police blocked off Desplaines southbound between Roosevelt Road and 22nd and northbound between 16th and 22nd.
