James Anthony Cox

James Anthony Cox age 57 of Cicero, formerly of Forest Park, died Sept. 10. He was born April 2, 1956, son of the late Robert D. and late Socorro (nee Granados).

Growing up in Forest Park he loved sports. James played on the Forest Park Middle School basketball team, and played as a catcher in Little league and Pony league baseball. He was voted MVP for Kiwanis Kolts Football in 1968. He hit the game-winning grand-slam homer to win the FP Little League championship for the 1968 White Sox. He was a Varsity Proviso East teammate to many in baseball and football. He was a recipient of a college football scholarship in 1974. In 2011, James was a volunteer assistant baseball coach for the freshman with brother Daniel Cox at Proviso East .

He was brother of Robert (Sharon), Daniel (Anne), Thomas (Sue), Jeannie and Michael (Dawn) and companion to Karen Svehla. He was uncle of Theresa, Audrey, Andrew, Robert and Ashley and dear friend of Donna Napolitano. He is survived and loved by many family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, at Oak Park Baptist Church, 3101 South Oak Park Ave., Berwyn. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the James Anthony Memorial Fund in care of the Cox Family, 560 North Oak Avenue, West Chicago, IL 60185. Arrangements by Kopicki’s Heritage Funeral Home, 3117 South Oak Park Avenue, Berwyn. Cremation arranged by Parkwyn Funeral Directors Crematory of Berwyn.
