Chicago actress Megan Long and her husband Chicago Symphony vocalist Michael Brown moved to Forest Park six months ago.

“We love it here. We love having a backyard and raking leaves,” Long said.

She has been acting in Chicago and regionally for many years and is currently commuting to Munster, Ind., for a seasonal role: portraying the Ghost of Christmas Past in a musical version of The Christmas Carol, performed at Theater at the Center, a dinner-theater venue.

“It’s a great event for families. The music is by Alan Menken, who did the Disney movies,” Long said. “Other than the Muppets, I’d never heard of a musical version of Christmas Carol.”

Long will be spooking Scrooge, played by Chicago actor Larry Adams, who has made the rounds locally in Oliver! at Drury Lane, off-Broadway in The Hunchback Variations and was in the Broadway production and national tour of Phantom of the Opera.

“It’s a really beautiful story and it’s really cool to see it put to music,” Long said.

The Christmas Carol runs Nov. 17-Dec. 22 at the Theater and the Center, 1040 Ridge Road, Munster, Ind.
