River Forest resident Karin Lundgren was walking her Scottish terriers in the Jewish Waldheim cemetery on Thanksgiving Day when she found this scrapbook page on the ground. She brought it to the Review when she noticed the word “Washington” on the orange construction paper football, thinking perhaps it had been carried from the Washington, Ill. tornado Nov. 11.
We posted an image of the football on the Found Items from the Washington Illinois and Diamond, Illinois Tornadoes Facebook page. Relatives of Clay Campbell, formerly No. 82 on the Washington football team recognized the image. Three items of Clay’s were found around Illinois, his mother said. Lundgren will send the artifact to the Morton Public Library in Morton, Ill. where photos, documents and mementos are being collected and returned to the owners.
