The Forest Park Elementary School Board of Education will meet tonight to discuss the district’s keeping school open during the recent severe weather Jan. 6 and 7. The board heard public comments from teachers, parents and the president of the Forest Park Teachers’ Association at their Thursday meeting. But because the school opening wasn’t on the agenda, the board was prevented from actually discussing the weather events and the district’s decision to keep schools open while neighboring communities cancelled classes.
At Thursday’s meeting, the board decided to draft a letter to the community explaining the district’s policy. Board members decided they would discuss the letter in open session at a special meeting, and scheduled it for tonight. The meeting takes place at the district offices, 424 Desplaines Ave. and begins at 7 p.m.
