A referendum seeking a sales tax increase of one half of one percent will be submitted to voters as a referendum on the primary election ballot March 18.

If the referendum passes, sales tax in Forest Park on goods and services would change from 8.5 percent to 9 percent, thus increasing the sales tax for infrastructure to one percent. As dictated by law, the additional funds generated by the proposed increase will be dedicated solely to infrastructure improvements.

If the community approves the referendum as we hope it will, our sales tax rate of nine percent will remain competitive with neighboring communities. Our current sales tax rate is the lowest in the area compared with Oak Park, River Forest, Berwyn and North Riverside who are at nine percent.

The Forest Park Chamber of Commerce supports this referendum and encourages Forest Park residents to get out and vote YES on March 18, 2014, allowing the village to receive much needed additional sales tax dollars.
