The Forest Park Village Council voted Monday to submit a grant proposal for alley repairs to the Cook County Community Development Block Grant program. The village has requested $290,000 to be used in fiscal year 2014 for water main and storm sewer improvements in the 400 block of Ferdinand. CDBG funds can only be used in low-income areas, according to federal rules.
According to the grant application, the existing roadway is deteriorating and the water main is undersized and nearing the end of its useful life. The plan will resurface the pavement, replace 660 feet of water main pipe and install 470 feet of storm sewer. The village offers to pay $45,000 from the general fund in matching funds for the project.
The repairs will be part of a spot-approach to alleviate flooding by separating storm sewers as repairs are done.
