Shown here is a photograph of a beautiful lawn, beauty being in the eye of the beholder. Dandelions are the new symbol of beauty, lawnly speaking. They attract bees, which are dying out, they prove that the lawn keeper is not polluting the planet with chemicals. Clover, too attracts bees and improves the lawn by retaining water. Why spend hours watering a lawn when millions of people on earth are dying because of a lack of clean water? Now, please just help me down off my soapbox.

Congratulations to Vox 60130 on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. The organization was presented with a Democracy Champions certificate of achievement from County Clerk David Orr. Gloria Backman, of Vox, volunteers at Oak Forest High School, and helped register 200 high school students to vote. Way to go, Gloria!

All Forest Parkers are welcome to attend Vox meetings, encouraged to come, as a matter of fact. Elected officials are especially welcome, but may not hold office. This group is a trouble shooter, not a trouble maker. Come and see for yourself. Express your opinion, ask questions, Forest Park belongs to you as much as the next person. Attendance grows when a big issue is coming up, such as what’s going on with the Eisenhower. What are the tentative plans for the Circle Avenue “L” station? How about the referendum to change our form of government in Forest Park?

Congratulations to Geri Grant who has completed all courses in ophthalmic assistance and is now qualified to work in a lab assisting ophthalmic physicians. True to their motto to “serve and protect” Two of Forest Park’s Finest, Officers Senisi and Dalas came to the aid of a frail young mother who had difficulty walking. The young woman wanted to see her daughter at last week’s All School Picnic. The men cheerfully summoned a cart to take the mother to where her daughter was performing.
