Two signs for “Horan’s Elgin Tap” appear above the doorway at 7266 Roosevelt Rd. as the building is being remodeled. The Elgin Tap was a longtime tavern on Roosevelt Road. Horan’s was run by legendary Forest Park Irish barkeep Aeneas Horan, who moved the operation of his bar to Horan’s Snug (now Fatduck) on Madison Street in 1979. As an immigrant, Horan of River Forest and Forest Park said he initially wanted to be a priest, but he listened to, “just as many confessions from behind the bar.” Horan sold the Snug to new owners around 1989. He died in Fort Meyers, Florida in 2007.
