Crain’s Chicago business reported July 1 that Portillo’s Hot Dogs, Inc. has moved closer to a final sale of the company to Boston’s Berkshire Partners. The two businesses are in “advanced talks,” according to a Reuters story cited by Crain’s.

Known for hot dogs, hamburgers and Italian beef sandwiches, the Forest Park Portillo’s is often so busy, outside staff take drive through orders by radio headset from cars lined up outside.

The Oak Brook-based company has 38 locations, including some in California and Arizona.  Founder Dick Portillo, 71, still runs the company. Other restaurants owned by the company include Barnelli’s Pasta Bowl, Luigi’s House and Honey-Jam Cafe.
