Three Proviso feeder towns make up more than half of the enrollment in the District 209 Proviso high schools. Those are Maywood, Bellwood and Melrose Park. So why were there no representatives of those districts at Monday’s “summit” meeting of feeder districts and the high schools?
Credit to District 209 for understanding the vital role of working with the elementary schools. Credit to Forest Park’s District 91 which had its superintendent and two school board members as active participants.
From our reporting, it was a worthwhile day of frank discussion. But it was inevitably undermined by the inexcusable absence of the district’s three biggest feeder communities.
