1) We at St. John are followers of Jesus, and for that reason, we pay close attention to his strategies. If you watch Jesus closely, these are features of his life on this earth that jump off the page; 1) he healed lots of people whether they wanted to become his followers or not; 2) he fed lots of people whether they wanted to become his followers or not; 3) he hung out and ate will all sorts of people; 4) he didn’t care much about institutional structure,…not that he was antagonistic towards it; he just had little time for it himself; 5) he didn’t care much about having money because the most important things in life have little to do with money; 6) he was focused on one goal – and this is most important – …one goal to cancel out and undo the effects of sin on the world, sin which isolates us from one another and which isolates us from God. In short, he came to make life good, both now and forever, and he has deployed his followers as an extension of that mission. So here we are, St. John Lutheran Church, the local expression of Jesus’ strategy.
