By popular request, demand you might say, the Friends of the Forest Park Library will be holding a book sale. President Marge Zwadlo would like everyone to bring book donations to the Youth Services Desk on the lower level. If you would like to help out on the sale days contact Alicia Hammond at ahammond@fppl.org. Preview Night is Friday, Sept. 10 from 5-7 p.m. Book Sale hours: Saturday, Sept. 20, 9 a.m. -4:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept.21, 1-4:30 pm. Book sales are always fun and you meet lots of neighbors who, like you, love to read.

A sad farewell to Frieda Schweinke who would have reached her 101st birthday in a few months. She still claimed a host of friends and a most devoted daughter in law among her relatives. The beauty salon Always in Style was the setting of her 100th  birthday a while ago and that celebration filled her heart with joy.

Another friend of many Forest Parkers and a famous Oak Parker, George Rico, also left us this week. George was a consummate musician and benefactor to many young musicians while he taught music at Lane Tech-all his working life. He directed the chorus at Lane. His annual Messiah was famous throughout the city of Chicago. Mr. Rico’s last years were spent at the Oak Park Arms where he often entertained the residents with his piano playing. George Rico’s dry wit and enormous bow ties will live on in many memories.

Denise Murray is shown here with Jenny McClellan as they cruised down the Rock River last week. Denise was ably assisted by Terry Meffley who knows how to handle these crowds. Zinna Simmons, 91, was among the 91 cruisers on board. Everyone admired Zinna’s lovely sweater.

Watch this space for news about the coming Creativita, at 7502 ½ Madison St. It’s a BYOB painting studio with brushes, paints (acrylic) and easels available to anyone who wants to paint, but doesn’t want to mess up the house. Lessons will be available. Sept. 5 is the grand opening.

Hank Akimori was the UPS delivery man here for many years. He became a family member to each customer here in town. Hank and his wife were scheduled to come on the Rock River cruise but didn’t make it. Hank died this last week-end at the young age of 67. Deep sympathy to Carol and his entire family.

Birthday greetings to Rebecca Greskoniak, Allison Pacyga, Jake Brown, Al Verri, Phil Jilek, Linda Brhel, Dakota Staiger, Grant Neubeiser, Sandy Boy, Reid Thompson, Coleen Murray, Rocco Cirrintano, Angela Tricoci, Kevin Nutley, Donna Prochazka, Thomas Curry.
