Opportunity Knocks will be hosting its 8th Annual OK Classic Softball Tournament on Saturday, September 27th, located on the Softball Fields of The Park in Forest Park. The OK Classic is a one day, 20-team, co-ed, 14-inch, charity softball tournament. It has also become a festival full with food, live music and fun for the whole family. Proceeds from this event go to benefit the Warriors at Opportunity Knocks, a non-profit organization serving individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
The first pitch will be at 7:30 am and continue all day with our Championship game played at 9:00 pm. This family friendly event will include many activities throughout the day such as the KG Kid’s Fun Zone and the Backyard GamesZone, both open from 10:00 am – 6:00 pm. Live music will be performed during the day starting at noon and we will be showing all of the top college football games on the big screen in the tent.
Featured at mid-day this year, will be the first ever Showdown at the OK Corral, where the OK Warriors will square off against the WSSRA Bobcats in an exhibition softball game. We are inviting the whole community to come out and join us to support these young people as they showcase their softball skills. The game will begin at 12:00pm.
Also, new this year, OK will be hosting its first annual Restaurant Wars beginning at 1:30 pm in the fest area. Five local chefs will be paired with one Warrior and pitted against one another in this all new cooking competition. Come see which chef-Warrior team will win the ultimate bragging rights.
General entry to the event is free. Food and beverage tickets will be on sale on site. Vendors include Alpine Sub Shop, Original Ferrara Bakery, Maria’s Mexican Restaurant, Skrine Chops, Big Guys Sausage Stand, Roeser’s Bakery, Aspire Coffeeworks, Lagunitas Brewing Company and Deep Eddy Vodka.
The OK Classic is Opportunity Knock’s marquee fundraiser, leading the way amongst four annual events that combine to provide more than 75% of the funds necessary to operate the organization. Opportunity Knocks is nearly completely privately funded.
Through this effort there is a rally of support that includes more than 1000 private donors, over 1200 attendees on the day of the event, more than 45 sponsors, 110 volunteers and 380 softball players coming together to support Opportunity Knocks.
