Frank Black

Frank B. Black, 91, of Oak Park, passed quietly into God’s hands on September 23, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents James Reed Black and Donna B. Black and three siblings, Dorothy J. Black, James Reed Black Jr. and Donna M. Black. He is survived by his first cousins once removed, James R. Black Jr., of Orlando, Florida, David L. Black of Hampton, Georgia and Clifford R. Black of Orlando, Florida. 

Frank was born March 6, 1923, and grew up in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood where he graduated from Austin High School in 1941. He was attending Wheaton College in Wheaton, until the U.S. Army drafted him in 1943. He entered combat in the Battle of the Bulge on Christmas Eve 1944 and helped liberate people from German concentration camps. He returned home in 1945 to finish his studies at Wheaton College, graduating in the class of 1948. He is remembered for his lifelong writings of his memories while working on and off for the U.S. Postal Service, Postlewait Funeral Home and the Oak Park YMCA.
