Gov. Pat Quinn lives just up the road in the Galewood neighborhood of Chicago. So it is not a total surprise that we see him out and about. Last week he was eating pancakes at George’s Restaurant just downstairs from the Review’s offices in Oak Park. Tuesday morning he was expected at Dominican University in River Forest to fork over $3 million to help fund a new building on campus.

Ten days ago, the most generous governor was in Forest Park to pass out a cool half million for the village to rebuild alleys. Mayor Anthony Calderone went so far as to say, “This is the best governor that I’ve seen in my 16 years as mayor of Forest Park.” Now as one of the wags on our digital version pointed out, the other two governors who served during Calderone’s reign have been convicted and shipped off to the hoosegow. So the bar in Illinois is low.

Even so, Forest Park – the village and the parks – have benefitted greatly from grants from the state and we are appreciative.
