Owners Tina and Jim Salerno beam with pride when they talk about the talent and devotion of their Team. “They are always learning,” Tina says, “always striving and totally dedicated to the hair craft and beauty industry.”
The James Anthony Team is comprised entirely of women and for Tina, helping these women to be independent and successful, to balance their family and career, is one of her primary goals. She tells her Team members that it’s not enough to just work hard in the salon, they need to make the same effort in every aspect of their lives. “When there is harmony in a person’s heart,” Tina says, “then it shows in everything they do.” But Tina doesn’t stop there. At James Anthony working hard also means looking good. “We are hairstylists,” she says, “but we are also fashion and beauty mentors. It’s our responsibility to give our guests the added confidence that comes with always looking and feeling their best.”
The James Anthony Team is a close knit group. The success and growth of the salon is reflected in the respect and rapport that the team members have with one another. They work together seamlessly, helping, cheering, encouraging, and always focused on the guest. The James Anthony Experience as they call it, begins when you are greeted by one of the salon coordinators, either Maria, Yim or Sue. These women reserve your appointments and answer your questions. They are your first impression of the salon and your parting friendly smile.
The hairstylists are comprised of the Master Stylists, Lindsay W. and Tina, the Senior Stylists, Jenna, Jackie, Laura and Stephanie, and the Stylists, Lindsay D., Victoria, Lacy, Erika, Domenica, Lauren, Lupe, and Raz. Perhaps, though, the most memorable part of the James Anthony Experience is the Luscious Lather Shampoo, a fifteen minute head and neck massage. This, Tina credits to the salon’s “amazing assistants,” Alessandra, Mandi, Jae, and Kelsey. Rounding out the Team are the nail technicians, Daisy and Stella, who just celebrated her twentieth anniversary with James Anthony last month.
Both Tina and Jim credit much of their success to their recruiting efforts, a process that is made easier by their connection as part-owners to three Paul Mitchell Cosmetology Schools, Chicago,Chicago- West Campus (Lombard) and Escanaba, Michigan. They are able to choose from among the most talented and promising graduates. “These young professionals bring their personalities, stories, experiences, and heart to everything they do,” Tina says, “Yet they truly understand the importance of people, that we need to exceed the expectations of our guests every time.”
In the spring of this year, James Anthony Salon relocated to Marion Street in Downtown Oak Park. Tina is effusive when talking about her new neighborhood, “It has really re- awakened and re-inspired all of us. It’s amazing here, so much fun and filled with life. It has really brought out the best in our team.” For the Salernos, the new beautiful salon is the perfect space to showcase the knowledge, skill and passion of the Team. “We are excited about our first holiday season in Oak Park,” Jim says, “we have been taking reservations through the end of the year and our schedules are looking very busy.”
