On Monday, Nov. 3, Children’s Dentistry and Forest Park Orthodontics held their 6th Annual Halloween Candy Buy Back, collecting 622 pounds of candy to send to U.S. Military troops.
“With the unfavorable weather on Halloween, we were optimistic that many community members would have extra candy to donate this year. This turned out to be the case, as well as the many families that brought in their surplus of candy received during trick-or-treating,” said practice owner Dr. Jerry Udelson.
When donors came into the office, they were able to weigh their candy, receive $1 per pound of candy (up to 10 pounds) and create a card to express gratitude to service members. The boxes of candy that Children’s Dentistry and Forest Park Orthodontics accumulated will be included in care packages to U.S. Military troops overseas and local Veterans Administration hospitals and organizations. “Soldiers are so appreciative of the care packages they receive and are amazed at the support they receive from total strangers, ” said Barbara Klapperich, 5th District VFW Auxiliary Senior Vice President, Illinois.
