Two longtime friends of each other and the library are Shirley Christell and May Bill at the Friends Christmas party. Take a good look at these beauties: Shirley will celebrate her 69th wedding anniversary next month, May just observed her 94th birthday!
The Christmas Walk was never better than this year. Even the weatherman cooperated which he usually does not.
The Pippin Madrigal Singers performed at Centuries & Sleuths to the delight of all listeners. As children came into the room they were immediately entranced by the sound of the music. One little one who was carried off by a parent, cried and pointed a finger toward the singers. It’s not necessary to dumb down music for little kids.
Gloria and Steve Bachman are collectors of antiques. Recently they came across two vases with the old Palmer House logo on them. Gloria thought the hotel might be interested so she contacted them. The Bachmans were rewarded with a two-night stay in a beautiful suite of rooms, meals and a tour of historical interesting points of interest of the hotel included.
Welcome home from sixteen days in Ireland to Joan and Pat White, Cara, Anne and Anne’s new husband. They visited the Irish Whites and other family members — and were treated like visiting royalty. It was a way to begin the Christmas holiday they’ll always remember.
“A Christmas Memory” a play based on a story by Truman Capote was the perfect destination of the Senior trip last Thursday. A poignant heart-warmer with a recollection of past Christmas traditions, especially the making of the dreaded fruitcake. This story is a mostly autobiographical tale of Truman Capote, and it includes a lovely dog, Queenie, played by the stage manager’s dog, Emaline Green. You know any story with a dog is going to make you cry eventually. But I urge you to see this play if you every get the chance.
Also on the agenda was a licensed re-creaton of the works of Frida Kahlo, a stunning show of this iconic Mexican artist who had such a full but tragic life. She survived polio as a child, entered a pre-med program but was tragically injured in a bus/trolly accident at the age of 18. Her marriage, divorce and remarriage to Diego Rivera are legendary.
Thank you to Denise Murray for her excellent choices of trips. More good trips coming up in 2015!

Deepest sympathy to our editor/publisher, Dan Haley on the death of his brother Bill.
