Richard H. Meegan, 80 years old, of Oak Park, died peacefully with family by his side on Jan. 12, 2015.

Rick was a second-generation driver for the Chicago Tribune for 48 years, his father, Henry Meegan, worked there 46 years. Rick also owned and ran a newsstand at the corners of North Blvd. and Oak Park Avenue in Oak Park, from 1975 until 2007. Many family members helped him with this on Sundays as early as 4 a.m., including his children and grandchildren.

Rick was the most dedicated family man. Most summer vacations were spent with his family at cottages in Michigan. His love of Lake Michigan is what brought about his passion for boats, and his 1963 wooden Skee/Craft boat was his pride and joy. After retirement he spent many Mondays (couldn’t go on Sunday because of the newsstand) taking his boat to New Buffalo, and always included many of his kids and their families.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents Henry and Florence Meegan, his sister Sharon Tenerelli, son Timothy Meegan, daughter Charlotte Meegan, and ex-wife Beverly Gallo. He is survived by his loving children: Debbie (Bill) Schaubel, Barbara Jackson (Gary Sanders), Richard J. Meegan (Mickey Zimmer), Kathy (Mike) Matuszak, Karen (Joey) DiGiovanni, and Beverly (Jon) Stockholm, daughter-in-law Mary Pat,  and brother-in-law Wes Curda. He was grandfather of 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He leaves behind many friends. Visitation/Wake will be Saturday, Jan. 24 10 a.m.-1:30p.m., with a service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Zimmerman Harnett Funeral Home, 7319 Madison Street, Forest Park. Phone: 708/366-2200.
