You don’t want to mess with the Cub Scouts and the Kiwanis when they’ve got a head of steam up. So we congratulate the village council members – five men we’ve noticed – for following their impulses from kidhood and green-lighting the planned Soapbox Derby race on the Circle Avenue bridge.
The local groups have enlisted the aid of the official Soap Box Derby honchos from Naperville. Soapbox cars can be rented for just $30 a day, Naperville has a source for insurance, and as the Review reported last week there are even some two-person cars available so a kid with some sort of disability can still feel the thrill of downhill racing. Here in ever-so-flat northern Illinois, it can be tough to find a hill for racing. Forest Park has the abnormally humped Circle bridge. Time to have some fun.
