Each February, the American Dental Association (ADA) sponsors National Children’s Dental Health month to raise awareness about proper dental care for young children. Dr. Jerry Udelson, a long-time pediatric dentist in Forest Park and father of four, supports this every year by presenting to area schools, libraries, and play groups. “By educating children early about good brushing habits and healthy food choices, we are helping eliminate dental anxieties as an adult and getting them started on the right path to a lifetime of healthy smiles!” says Udelson.
Last year Dr. Jerry’s Fairies were able to educate almost 1,000 children on the importance of proper oral hygiene; each of the presentations feature hands-on activities that discussed primary teeth, what we use our teeth for and why healthy food habits are important. Each child also walked away from the presentations with a fun goody bag with a new toothbrush, toothpaste and a coloring sheet to help carry the lesson home to share with their family and friends.
This year Dr. Udelson has also partnered up with America’sToothFairy Smile Drive, a national campaign to collect oral care products for at-risk children in our community. “We are so grateful that caring dental professionals across the country are helping ensure children receive the oral care products they need through the America’s ToothFairy Smile Drive,” said Fern Ingber, America’s ToothFairy President and CEO. Children’s Dentistry, 1125 S. Harlem Ave., will be donating 100 tooth tools to UCAN Chicago, a multi-faceted social service agency which serves more than 13,500 children, youth and families in Chicago each year.
Founded in 2004, Children’s Dentistry has grown to be one of the most recognized and respected pediatric dental practices in the area. As a two-time Red Tricycle “Most Awesome” Award winner as Happiest Dentist Office, it is apparent that a love of working with children and having fun is the overlying theme of the office. A waiting room filled with a bedazzled funny mirror, video-games, full-sized boggle seating and bright, colorful décor welcomes children and parents alike! Dr. Jerry has been a pediatric dentist since 1989, and also surrounds himself with a welcoming staff who have expertise in pediatric dental care and a love for children.
