Continuing a long tradition, the Forest Park Chamber of Commerce & Development and the Forest Park Review will again sponsor candidate forums ahead of the April elections. There will be two forums, one for candidates for village hall and a second for candidates for the Proviso Township High School board.

The District 209 Proviso school forum will be Wednesday, March 11. It will feature candidates for the school board which governs Proviso East, Proviso West and the Proviso Math and Science Academy. Highly contested this election season, the race features seven candidates for three board seats. Joining the Chamber and the Review in sponsoring the District 209 debate will be the Village Free Press, a news blog which covers Maywood. The Review and Village Free Press have been partnering on news coverage for the past year.

The forum for Forest Park municipal races will be on Thursday, March 19 and it will be divided into two parts. The early portion of the forum will be for the five candidates seeking four positions on the village council. The second half of the forum will focus on the race for mayor between incumbent Anthony Calderone and Chris Harris, currently a village commissioner.

Each forum will take place at the Forest Park Middle School’s Cafetorium, 925 Beloit Ave. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with the forums beginning at 6:30 p.m. Dan Haley, Review publisher, will serve as moderator. Written questions will be solicited from audience members.

Election Day is Tuesday, April 7.
