Garfield Kindergarten students have been very busy learning about the human body. They started by participating in a jigsaw learning activity. A jigsaw learning activity is a method of organizing a classroom activity that makes students dependent on each other to learn. Students are broken into small groups and assignments are divided into parts that the groups work on with support and guidance from a teacher. Then each small group reports back to the others what they have learned. The groups learned about and reported back about the skeletal system, the nervous system, the circulatory system, the respiratory system and the digestive system. The jigsaw activity was followed by an activity in which students’ bodies were traced and cut out. Each body system was placed in the appropriate part of the body cut outs.
