I am the son of a fisherman from a small village in Mexico called Zihuatanejo. My father was a proud and serious man, and I remember him using an expression “caca de pollo” to describe things that were beneath him and not worthy of his attention.
I think of Papa now as I look back on some of the shameful things that went on in town these past weeks.
Whether it was the article in the Sun-Times about Officer Young Lee’s drunken indiscretions or the bald-faced fabrications printed on way too many campaign fliers, or the sneaky videotaping of Commissioner Hosty and “poopgate,” these certainly have not been Forest Park’s finest days.
I think if Santiago Garcia lived in our village at this time, he’d be saying “caca de pollo” a lot. And he’d probably be correct every time.
