Hubertine Henzler

Is everyone ready for the tea party on Saturday? Everyone is waiting for you at the Women’s Exchange on Oak Park Avenue. All ages welcome, proceeds to benefit the Exchange at 839 S. Oak Park Ave. Jane Bagnall, who teaches costume design at UIC, will be on hand, probably wearing some of her original costumes. The tea party lasts from 2 until 5 p.m. that’s May 2. You’ll be sure to get a tummy-full and an eye-full.

Congratulations to Hubertine Henzler of Thomas Avenue. Hubertine received the Samuel Ostrowski Award for Academic Achievement at Roosevelt University. She is a product of our Forest Park schools and home schooling. Good combination, obviously.

Mandy Ford, Jim Ford’s wife, took their son, J.W., to the Olympic tryouts at Seven Bridges ice arena in Woodridge a few years ago. While they were there, Patrick Kane tapped on the glass for J.W.’s attention and threw his hockey stick over the glass to the young man. Instantly J.W. was mobbed by a bunch of kids and got a few small cuts as a result. A security guy broke up the mob and sent J.W. off with his prize stick.

A few weeks later, Kane and Jonathan Toews were signing autographs at the Yorktown Mall. So naturally J.W. and his dad got in line so J.W. could get his stick autographed. It was a long wait and when it was J.W.’s turn, he handed the stick to Kane who said, “Hey! This is my stick!”

“Yeah,” said the boy, “you threw it to me a few weeks ago.”

“Oh, are you that kid?” asked Kane. “Come back here behind these ropes.”

So the young man went back and he and Kane had some photos taken together. Then Kane told the promoters to give J.W.’s money back.

Happy birthday to Angie Ventrella, Tom Hawkins, Veronica Marischler, Pete Geraci, Emily Fjeldstad, Karen Hawkins, Kate Schultz, Alexandra Zaverdas, Scarlett Strickland, Yolanda Nigro, Beth Apilado, Bill Dwyer, and Sarah Ann Bothie. Happy anniversary to Brandi and Rob Mintz.
